Significant benefits can be achieved by way of meetings between industry and members of the community within which they operate. Such meetings, independently facilitated with a collaborative approach assist parties to build relationships and work together to solve problems or maximise the benefits for each party.

The industry benefits from the first-hand feedback they receive from their neighbours and other members of their community, and the people that attend contribute to their community and individual environments by helping to reduce any negative effects and plan any mitigating improvements.

Examples of Industry / Community collaboration include;

  • Facilitation of the Waihi Community Vision forum between Newmont Waihi Gold, Hauraki District Council and the people of Waihi.
  • Tuakau Proteins Ltd where effects of the rendering plant in Tauakau are discussed and resolved between neighbours of the plant and senior management.
  • The Fonterra Lichfield Community Liaison Group between Fonterra and the Lichfield community regarding the building and operation of the new milk powder drying plant in Lichfield.
